EICA Certification: Mobile Crane and Digger Derrick

The Altec Sentry EICA Test preparation & testing program prepares experienced crane and digger derrick operators for the EICA written and practical tests. It is a two-part class designed to help crane and digger derrick operators learn the OSHA regulations and ASME standards of safe operation.

Altec Sentry offers structured preparatory training designed to align with EICA's published written and practical exam requirements, focusing on safe setup, operation, inspection, and shutdown of cranes and digger derricks used in electrical and utility environments. This preparation is delivered through a combination of instructor-led training and Sentry Online courses that meet OSHA- and ANSI-aligned general training expectations, while emphasizing the job-specific competencies evaluated during EICA testing. In addition to preparation, Altec Sentry provides on-site administration of EICA practical examinations, coordinating equipment, exam logistics, and qualified examiner.

To obtain EICA certification, candidates must meet the requirements established by the Electrical Industry Certifications Association and successfully complete both a written and a practical examination. The EICA written examination consists of a general knowledge exam and one or more specialty exams specific to crane or digger derrick operation, with defined passing scores for each exam type. The practical examination evaluates hands-on operational skills through a series of standardized tasks that assess site setup, inspections, signaling, and load-handling proficiency, including "domain critical" elements that must be passed to continue testing. Candidates must submit an application to EICA, pay the required fees, and complete written testing before or in conjunction with the practical exam, as outlined in EICA's published certification process. Altec Sentry's role is to help operators and employers navigate these requirements by delivering focused exam preparation and coordinated exam administration-reducing complexity while supporting safe, compliant certification outcomes for crane and digger derrick operators in the electrical industry.

The course will take a total of 5 days, which includes 3 days of test preparation, a written test day, and a practical test day.
